YORKSHIRE – The Loughborough Lightning changed up their set-up and did not run most of their offensive play through their Barbadian goal attack Nikita Piggott.
But in the end the result was the same as previously when they suffered their tenth straight defeat, going down to the Yorkshire Jets 61 – 44 as action continued in the English Netball Super League Competition yesterday.†
The Lightning have not won a single game in the 2013 season and have no chance now of making the play-offs.†
Hopes had been high for the trip up to Leeds after Lightning matched the Yorkshire side in the home fixture last week, eventually losing that match by just two goals.
Goal Shooter Beth Payne returned to the side and with support from Jamaican international Vanessa Walker, Lightning were in contention throughout the first two quarters, closing the half just two goals behind the Jets.
However a decisive third quarter saw the impressive Jo Walker score 15 goals out of 16 attempts for the Jets to put the home side in control of the match.
Piggott, the former COW Rangers stand-out and national player who is in her first overseas professional stint, came on to replace Payne at goal Shoot. But despite the best efforts of the Lightning another dominant quarter from the Jets in the fourth saw them stretch their lead and claim the easy victory.†
Payne ended with 19 goals foam 25 attempts, Walker had 17 from 20 attempts, while Piggott chipped in with eight goals from 12 attempts.
Piggott and the Lightning† have two more home games for the season, on Thursday, and on May 11.
