The on-going Barbados Secondary Schools Netball League continued this evening as Lester Vaughan defeated Frederick Smith  20-12 in a competitive game played at Cane Garden, St. Thomas.

Playing with home court advantage, Lester Vaughan were first on the scoresheet and maintained a slim advantage in that period which ended 4-3 in their favour. They upped their game in the second quarter and were able to defend and also capitalize on a few rebounds to add seven points to their tally in that quarter which ended 11-5. Frederick Smith were limited to a mere two goals.

In the penultimate quarter the home girls increased their lead by a comfortable nine goals, ending the period at 16-7 as the visitors continued to struggle at both ends of the court. Frederick Smith were only able to score two points as the hosts played particularly well on the defensive end.

In the decisive quarter Frederick Smith showed more offensive oomph and actually outscored Lester Vaughan 5-4. However, that was still insufficient to truly reduce the deficit conceded over the first three quarters.

Lester Vaughan goal-shoot Jana Joseph netted 16 goals from 29 attempts and made a number of second-opportunity goals. Goal-attack Azaria Sealy scored the other four goals from 12 attempts.

Frederick Smith’s goal-shooter Gianni Lowe-Greene contributed nine goals from 18 attempts while goal-attack Shontae Lowe had three goals from eight attempts.
