Blackman and Gollop are the queens of primary school netball.
Today at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex Blackman and Gollop A defeated St. Giles Primary 20-13 to capture the 2014 Pine Hill Dairy-sponsored National Sports Council’s Primary Schools Netball Championship.
Blackman and Gollop, which had fielded an A and B team in the tournament, owed their victory to an excellent shooting display by goal-shoot Danesha Davis and goal-attack T’shanni Payne. Davis had 12 goals from 14 attempts and Payne chipped in with eight goals from nine attempts.
Blackman and Gollop A were also brilliant on defence, especially in the final quarter where St. Giles were not allowed to score a single goal.
Blackman and Gollop led the game after each quarter, 6-3, 9-5 and 15-13.
The leading scorer for St. Giles was Donella Reid who netted 10 goals from 11 attempts. But the usually prolific Kellisa Kelly had to settle for a mere three goals from seven attempts after she had no answer to the swarming defensive efforts of St. Giles’ Shonica Griffith.
Blackman and Gollop’s wing-defence Kimani Archer was later adjudged the tournament’s MVP.
