Not only were St Giles Primary in good offensive touch today, their defensive play was equally potent as they defeated both Wesley Hall and Hindsbury Primary without conceding a single goal as action in the Pine Hill Dairy-sponsored National Sports Council’s Primary Schools Netball Competition continued at the Netball Stadium.
First the girls from the Ivy, St Michael school defeated Wesley Hall 19-0 with Donelle Reid and Kelissa Kelly leading the charge for their school. Reid netted eight goals from ten attempts while Kelly had 11 goals from 15 attempts. St Giles led 14-0 at half-time. A feature of St Giles’ play was their ability to intercept several passes and hustle the opposition into error. The result was that Wesley Hall hardly got the chance to make any attempts at goal.
It was more of the same when St Giles defeated Hindsbury 14-0. Again it was the school’s shooting aces who led their team’s offence with Reid scoring six goals from 12 attempts and Kelly having eight goals from 12 attempts. Hindsbury then found getting to the goal area as difficult a task as Wesley Hall had with goal scoring opportunities almost nonexistent.
Also in action in the Kathy Harper-Hall Zone today at the National Stadium were the girls from Charles F. Broome. They only scored two goals in their game against Wesley Hall but that was enough to get them a 2-0 victory over the King Street, St Michael school which returned to the city goalless. Lashawntay Husbands and Zionna Bobbie scored the goals for Charles F. Broome from one attempt each.
Playing in the Marion Johnson Hurley Zone at the Police Boys and Girls Club at Bay Street, St Michael, St Gabriel’s and St Angela’s both registered two victories each.
St Gabriel’s defeated St Lawrence Primary 6-0 with Aisha Waterman netting five goals from 11 attempts and Makayla Alleyne one from eight. Later it was Waterman with one goal from three attempts and Alleyne three goals from four attempts that saw St Gabriel’s to a 4-0 win over St Paul’s Primary.
Angel Moore with four goals from six attempts and Mackenzie Howard one goal from seven attempts led St Angela’s to a 5-0 win over the People’s Cathedral. The duo teamed up again in the 8-0 win over St Lawrence Primary with Moore netting three goals from four attempts and Howard sinking five from ten.
Bay Primary continued the trend of the winning teams not conceding any goals when they blanked People’s Cathedral 8-0. Rowland Kirton-Brown had four goals from ten attempts while goal-shoot Jhenna Clarke scored four goals from ten attempts.
